‘Fuego’ the World Congress of Poets Literary Journal.
In 2022 I was honoured to be elected by the Executive Board of the World Congress of Poets to
become one of their board members, to represent New Zealand.
As an executive board member of the World Congress of Poets, I will have the privilege to continue to
provide publishing and performance opportunities for poets in New Zealand, both locally,
nationally, and internationally; and as a poet, editor, and publisher to connect with other editors
and publishers to feature NZ poetry overseas.
One of my first projects with the World Congress of Poets is to be appointed as the Editor in Chief
for ‘Fuego’ the World Congress of Poets Literary Journal.
The goal of this new literary journal is to provide more opportunities for our members to publish
their work, and to also improve the quality of writing by our members.
This new publication will also provide writers and artists an opportunity in our community to have
their work showcased in a high-quality print production, and for many writers and artists this will be
their first time in print.
Fuego will become an annual publication that will strive to showcase poetry from featured countries,
including poetry by children, youth, and adults. The spotlight for this inaugural edition is to
feature Waimakariri, New Zealand.
We are delighted to showcase poetry and artwork from writers and artists in Waimakariri, as well as
poets from the North Canterbury Cancer Society Writers, and Orators group, WRITE ON School for Young
Writers, and participants from a Waimakariri Libraries Kids Fest Haiku writing workshop.
These local writers are featured alongside some of the leading poets in New Zealand, members of the
World Congress of Poets, and an impressive delegation of writers from China.
World Congress of Poets, Inc., is an association with 53 years since it´s foundation in 1969 with the
aim of helping to achieve the yearning for peace and brotherhood through poetry. Since then, under the
auspices of its sister association the World Academy of Arts and Culture, it has held 41 congresses in
different parts of the world, upholding the values of understanding, respect, freedom of belief, love,
and equality of all races.
In 2023, the World congress of poets will be held on board the Divina MSC Cruise, from 22 to 29
September, departing from Civitavecchia (Rome) Italy, visiting Siracusa, La Valeta, Santorini,
Mykonos, Civitavecchia, and will be organized by World Congress of Poets, Inc Executive Board headed
by María Eugenia Soberanis.
Special thanks to Ben Eldridge for his support, and to Waimakariri Creative Communities for funding
the first volume of Fuego. We hope to set the world on fire with this first volume and look forward to
encouraging more poets to publishing their work.
Arohanui,
Doc Drumheller
